october 7-15

Pedro's first trip to Paris included: an unnecessary bus ride from l'aeroport CDG (north of Paris) to Orly (another airport south of Paris), a very apologetic Alina waiting for him to descend - bleary-eyed, jet-lagged, yet still looking sharp in his new sport coat -, a first pain au chocolat to celebrate his arrival, (Sun) two hours of listening to incomprehensible French monologues by Isabelle Huppert and Ariel Garcia Valdès in Heiner Müller's Quartett (directed by Robert Wilson) at the newly renovated Odéon [see photo], (Mon) a tour of the École Normale Supérieure, 45, rue d'Ulm, including a chat with the Portuguese-speaking baristas, (Tues) a few hours at the American Consulate (lines, waiting, more lines, more waiting), Almadovar's Volver and post-cinema crêpes, (Wed) an evening at the Louvre [see photos below], (Thurs) dinner out at Le Severo, (Fri) Brasilianos!, the Hamilton de Holanda quintet with jazz violinist Didier Lockwood, (Sat) sleep, wine, bread, salami, more wine, fondant au chocolat, a last glass of wine, & to end things right, moules frites!

Sunday meant good-bye.
